experiments with chemistry

on the way in to work I took:
two 222's
one Sudafed

and it didn't touch it.

so about 40 minutes ago I added:
one more 222
2 ALeve
2 Ibuprofen
and one Benedryl.

and I don't hurt as badly now.

I think that as soon as this whole change over for insurance is *done* and I have an insurance card with a doctor and stuff I will make an appoitment to get checked out on this migraine business. There *must* be a more efficient way to kill the damn things.

Do you have coffee makers in your office? Go grab a bag of ground coffee (unused, of course), open it up and put your nose in the bag (careful, coffee grounds are NOT to be snorted, haha) and inhale and exhale deeply several times.

I assure you; this is not a stunt to make you look stupid in front of your co-workers.

Try it. Let me know if this works for you too. It works great for me!

Two other things to help with migraines...Pure caffeine (not necessarily coffee)...Chew ephedra/drink ephedra tea...take an anti-inflamatory (ibuprophen)

...until I learned that trick with the inhaling coffee fumes. I honestly couldn't stand coffee before then. But, inhaling it actually helped my headaches. {Hope it gave you some relief too: it has nothing to do with addiction. It opens your nasal passages, and does something wonderful to the blood vessels.}

The only other thing that kicks a migraine for me is this concoction:
Hour 1:
800 mg. Ibuprofen
2 antihistamine tablets
(This just starts to take the edge off)
Hour 3:
Four extra strength Tylenol
2-3 Decongestants
(Now things become fuzzy: definitely no driving)
Hour 5: Repeat Hour 1
(Here is when I start to feel better, IF the pain has not yet made me nauseous enough to vomit up Hour 3's pills. Trouble is that I generally am vomiting by hour 5, if the first few hours' remedies haven't started helping.)

My remedies in a nutshell. But, mind you: I have a gut of steel when it comes to painkillers. Many people wouldn't make it past the initial 800 mg. of Ibuprofen.

Good luck: and sunglasses! Even indoors, especially if you have overhead lighting in your office.

Oh yeah: DON'T inhale the smell of PREPARED coffee. What you want is the DRY grounds. Even better is to go to the supermarket and grind it fresh... that stuff is powerful.

the caffeine cure actually only works if your migraines are related to your caffeine addiction. Mine are not.

and I did take an anti inflamatory, but here it is only helpful if there is an inflamation causing the pain.

it is all about the *why* that the cure is found...

sleep often does help, if in no other way than I am not awake to be in pain ;)... like last night...

and as far as pain killers go...

My parents were practicing hippies when I came to be. I have their chemical tolerances.

I usually take 4 to 6 tylenol 3 with Codeines, about 4 ibuprofens (800 mgs), and one or 2 aleve.. (200-400 Mgs Naproxyn). If that doesn't help I take 1-2 BEnedryl.

I don't really vomit. Ever. So that isn't an issue. But being able to stand up is after all of the chemicals... *sigh*

and not all of my migraines are in my head. Sometimes I Get migraines in my guts. :( they really suck. IT's like swallowing hot lead. *sigh*.

Today's migraine was like an elevator. Head - guts - head - guts - head - guts - head...

I get throat infections at the drop of a hat, tonsilitis, laryngitis... *sigh*

no vomiting for me unless I CAN NOT HELP IT... and you would be amazed at my ability to control it. ;)

Caffine

Actually, the caffine has nothing to do with an addiction. What it does it help constrrict blood vessles in your body, and head. That's why a lot of pain killers that are targeted at headaches have caffine in them. I learned about the coffee thing in Somalia when we were working with old ammunition. The stuff was so old that the explosives had broken down into nitro glycerine which can cause some of the most horrific headaches. Even guys that got frequent migranes thought that nitro-headaches were worse. The trick I learned from the EOD guys was to have a mouthfull of instant coffee and hold it under the tongue like chewing tobacco. If you have a caffine addiction it actually makes the coffee trick harder to use (it took me at least 3 packets of instant coffee to get rid of the nitro-headaches because of it).
