so I FINALLY watched Akira Kurasowa's 7 Samurai today (most of the day too)

HOLY SHIT!!

WHAT A FAN-FUCKING-TASTIC MOVIE!!!!

If you haven't seen it, rent it on your next day off (and i do mean *off*, it's a LONG LONG MOVIE).

I may be fantasizing about what Akira could have done if he had access to a Hollywood budget and special effects. DAMN!!

Now I need to see The Magnificent 7, as (If I remember correctly) this is a tribute/take off of 7 Samurai.

MMMMMMMMMM the Kurasowa Goodness. TRY SOME SOON!!

and now I sleep.

I love this movie. I keep hoping that someone will digitally remaster it with better sound and subtitles you can actually read.

Maybe someone's already done it then -- I'll have to check it out.

I just remember watching this on VHS back in the '80s and struggling to read the white subtitles agains the sunlit (white) ground fields.

ah. yeah, that would do it. While the fields are still sunlit, well the color of them is more of a gray and there is texture to them as well. I found it very easy to read the subtitles. I think they might have been outlined in thin black..

I rented it from Netflix, if you are interested I can get you info on them. I love them, DVDs in teh MAIL.. WOO HOO.. talk about mail you love to get...

:D

Thats correct

Magnificet Seven was an american tribute to the Seven Samaurai. I once watched BOTH of those in the same day! (Best EIGHT hours I ever spent.) I highly recommend the Seven Samaurai, but I may be biased, as I am a huge mark for westerns.

Kurosawa's the man. And although their not Kurosawa's, if you get a chance, you might check out the Babycart movies. Their the live action movie versions of the Lone Wolf and Cub manga series. Read the comics if you haven't, then watch the movies and marvel. Also check out Blind Swordsman Zatoichi for more samurai goodness. :)
