Am I really asking too much?

ok so this is something that came from a friend of mine... But really, How hard is it to take responsibility for your own language? Personal pet peeve.
It just makes me sad when people refuse to see how much they are promoting the bad ideas behind the words by accepting the common usage of them, ESPECIALLY when they admit that they do not support that bad idea.

My mind is muddled. But I must say that another thread
posted recently brought up a very similar feeling...

I'm just tired of dealing with people who are possibly just too
stupid, probably too deep-down-ignorant, probably too messed up
emotionally, and in such powerful denial that they can repeat
and transmit ignorant, racist CRAP and go "what? What'd I say?
I don't UNDERSTAND! Are you being P.C.? It's just a word..."
Maybe when I feel stronger I'll get my patience back and once
more be up for dialogue with anyone/everyone. But not today.
Today I'm just fed up with it, and I'm not going to waste my
energy on anyone who won't do a little more work thinking.

Date: 2002-07-25 12:17 am (UTC)basically, what I said was that it is important to take responsibility for the words you choose, and to recognize that if the word is used in a negative connotation and it is a racially charged word then you are indeed promoting racism by using it.
I would bet it was exactly the sort of thing you have said before and will probably say again.
;)
Sometimes birds of a feather are simply responsible together.
